Have just paid my monthly rates bill of £948.66! A little excessive 4 my very small umit! Wonder if the government knows we're in recession?

Feeling like a business...

So, as I come to the end of my second year of trading and with Xmas round the corner, in all honesty there’s not much time to reflect on what I’ve achieved, got right and what I’ve completely cocked up!! However I did want to mention my relocation / rebranding has put me back to square one. I do feel that I’m starting again, building a brand and trying to keep my head above water. One thing that is clear in my mind is a shift in my pattern of thought when it comes to the gallery. I’m now breaking even each month and making a little profit. Not huge amounts but enough hopefully to see me through the first quiet months of 2012. I’m under no illusion that next year will be tough, but I’m pleased to say my gallery now feels like a business. That’s it really... Not really much else to say but it just feels like a proper business, paying wages, expenses and taxes etc.. I guess the next step is turning it from feeling like a proper business to a successful one!

Two things that keep me in the money!

So I managed to pull myself together last month and finish on a respectable figure! Had to wait until the very last minute but things happened (as they tend too) and I’m altogether happy with what I have achieved!

So I use to pay £250 per month for my rates. I then relocate to a smaller unit 100 metres up the road and because it’s closer the city centre my rates rise to practically £700 per month!

Just how I feel

Almost 2 years ago... January 2010 I set up my gallery in Hockley.

Opened the doors with little art on the wall, no customers and in the worst recession ever! Thinking back, not quite sure why I was sooo keen to sort out my own business! Typical man I think... head down, hell bent on not listening and just cracking on. An attitude that has no doubt caused me a few issues in my life.
