We've Finally Launched!

This last week has been intense!

I decided that Sunday was the day to push the button and send the site live. As I’ve said in previous blogs I could quite easily spend many more months tinkering with the website and never actually launch.

At 11.59 I tweeted to my mass following (150 followers) on the FreeFrom account that we were launching the site and that was it – Easy, right?

The Control Dilemma

It's a fact, when starting any business you as an individual will not be able to do everything. I learnt this lesson years ago when I started my paintball company. I did in fact manage to do almost everything myself however, looking at the initial designs - it is extremely obvious this was the case.

When Jodie and I started My Health Cards we didn't have any real medical or technical knowledge. We embraced this and were more than happy to outsource our original information based website and use contract medical professionals as well as enjoying the steep learning curve ourselves. - This worked fantastically as we have both built up a great knowledge of many FreeFrom requirements from a medical and lifestyle point of view.

Passion blinds the brain

When starting with the New Entrepreneurs Foundation, it originally felt an unnatural move. I have been self employed since the age of 15 and never found much excitement working for other people. (www.newentrepreneursfoundation.com) I accepted this fantastic placement after a huge amount of deliberation and discussion. My main justification was that the experiences gained and the network created this year would fast track my entrepreneurial development in the future.

Two months in, I can happily say that I’m continually learning a variety of things from my experiences. Even things I didn’t expect to learn, including learning how I work, identifying my strengths and weaknesses, embracing new methods of working and using techniques such as effectual thinking.

However, I’m not about to paint a perfect picture, because I can tell you now – it has been extremely challenging.

Sunday evening, the end my first week on the New Entrepreneurs Foundation. On Thursday, I started my placement working with the CEO of LONDON Advertising in my new role as Head of New Business.

Although I’ve only been working in the city for two days it is already very different to working in the Science Park in Birmingham.
